While individual faculty members research different problems and take different approaches, the department is unified by its common goal of medically-related research – of addressing problems directly affecting the human condition.

Students and faculty work together to find treatments for cancer and resistant bacteria, study the effects of alcohol on the liver, and find a cure to HIV. The department has eight research laboratories producing nationally and internationally acclaimed peer-reviewed research.
